Garden swing seat cushions: replacing a 2- or 3-seater swing pad
A swing seat pad is a sun lounger pad that stays out all summer and gets sat on by three people. Here is how to replace one properly.

Measuring a swing seat
- Seat width between the arms. 2-seater: 110-130 cm. 3-seater: 150-180 cm.
- Seat depth front edge to where the back starts: usually 45-55 cm.
- Back height from seat to top rail: usually 45-60 cm.
- Fixing: ties around the back rail and under the seat frame, or a flap. Look at how the old pad was attached.
One-piece or separate
The original is almost always one piece, seat and back joined. It looks neat and is a pain to dry. We recommend two pieces: a seat pad in quick-dry foam and a back cushion in hollow fibre, each tied to the frame. They dry faster, you can bring one in at a time, and a worn seat can be replaced alone. If you want one piece for the look, we sew it with a fabric hinge.
Seat: width minus 2, depth, 6-8 cm thick, quick-dry foam. Back: width minus 2, back height, 8-10 cm, hollow fibre. Ties to the rails.
Fabric
A swing lives in the open and is used in full sun. Printed polyester pads fade to a different colour on the top half within a summer and the foam below the canopy drip line goes mouldy. Sunbrella® solution-dyed acrylic does not fade and can be bleached clean; see best fabric for outdoor cushions. The canopy, if you replace that too, is best in the same fabric.
Scatter cushions on a swing
Two 45×45 on a 2-seater, three on a 3-seater. Because a swing is usually a single bright piece of furniture, keep the scatters in one colour family with the pad: a sand pad with olive and terracotta scatters, or a navy pad with natural white and lemon. All stock colours are on the collection page.
Ordering
Swing pads are made to measure, usually two to three weeks. Send the three measurements, a photo of the swing and how the old pad fixed on, via the contact page. How it works: made to measure.
